• ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
  
  Herbert Badham (1899-1961) studied at the Sydney Art School under Julian Ashton, George Lambert and Henry Gibbons, and later taught at East Sydney Technical School. Badham visited Cudal in 1945 on a painting trip with his fellow art teacher and friend, E. A. Harvey. Accompanying them were Badham's daughter, Chebi, and her school friend, Mary Fox.

  The painting depicts a tree lined streetscape of what appears to be five shopfronts. A red shirted Mary Fox can be seen cycling in the foreground at right.
