The Supply was one of eleven ships that made up the First Fleet. Carrying some 750 convicts the Fleet set off from Portsmouth, England, in May 1787. The Fleet was bound for Botany Bay under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip with orders to establish a colony in New South Wales. The Supply was the smallest ship being only 170 tons and 70 feet long and was one of two naval escort ships. Its duties were to keep the ships together, take messages between the ships and any other duties that the small ship could perform. Because it was fast, it led the Fleet most of the way. The Supply was skippered by Captain Henry Bull and had 50 people on board. It was built in America in 1759 and was commissioned by the Admiralty in October 1786.
