  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The Camden Park Estate is an example of a model rural estate from the early 19th century (continuing to serve this function until the 1950s). It is the oldest pastoral sheep stud in Australia.

John Macarthur, and his wife Elizabeth, established merino wool production there in 1806, as well as wheat, dairying, horticulture and grape growing. By the 1830s the estate had grown to 28,000 acres and was the greatest and most advanced mixed farm in New South Wales.

The Menangle rotolactor was built by Edward Macarthur-Onslow in 1952. Originally developed in the U.S.A., the rotolactor was the ultimate in modern milking machinery. In the 1960s and 70s it became a popular tourist attraction for people from Sydney.
