  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    In 1864 Dr Julius Haast, explorer and Canterbury provincial geologist, presented a paper to the Royal Geographical Society in London, on the mountains and glaciers of the Canterbury Province, New Zealand. Included with his notes were some watercolour drawings which had been painted in Nelson by John Gully from detailed notes, sketches and watercolurs sent to him by Dr Haast.
