New South Wales Government Railways ran their first Locomotive engine on 15th May, 1855, built by Robert Stephenson & Son in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England. The agency built all of their track to the standard gauge and ran its first official passenger train on 26 September 1855 between Sydney Terminal (now Redfern) to Parramatta (now Granville) railway stations. Mr William Sixsmith was the first driver of the train, and William webster the first fireman.
