Eleanor Madeline Whitfeld was dux of Sydney Girls High School in 1890 and was one of the first students at Women's College, University of Sydney where she graduated with first class honours. She later taught at Ascham School and became prominent in the Peace Movement. She married Professor George Arnold Wood in 1898.
