  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Beryl Ross worked at the ABC, Sydney, from 1933 to 1968 and was publicity officer from 1943 to 1968. She had particular responsibility for ABC Concerts and visiting artists.

    Images of Beryl Ross from 1924 to her retirement at 1968. Most photographs are of Beryl Ross with visiting artists of the ABC. They include Gerald Moore, Richard Farrell, Ignaz Friedman, Arthur Schnabel, Rudolf Himmer, Goodie Reeve, Lord Lurgan, Charles Farrell, Sir Granville Bantock, Sir Charles Moses, Cary Grant, Arthur Rubinstein, Dino Borgioli.

    Images of Sydney lit at night for the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of York in 1927, taken by Beryl Ross' sister, Zara Cleveson.

    Printed copy of "Girl's Head. Pencil drawing by Adelaide Perry. Exhibited at the Society of Artists' Special Exhibition, 1929". The drawing is of Beryl Ross.

    "Presented by the Commonwealth Government to Beryl Ross, to commemorate the Jubilee of the Commonwealth of Australia, 1951". Etched with the Australian Coat of Arms.

    On reverse is a man advancing right sowing seeds by hand; at left 1901, at right 1951 in tiny letters near ground right, J.W.E. (John Wolfgang Elischer).

    Pewter, 6 cm. in diameter. Presented in green leather box, 9 x 9 cm. lined in gold satin and green velvet. The lid is embossed in gold with the Australian Coat of Arms.

    "Miss B.G. Ross completed 20 years service 2.7.53". "The Australian Broadcasting Commission". Etched with tree branch with Kookaburras. On reverse is an etching of images depicting the roles of the A.B.C. In centre are transmission towers over the left side view of a man's face.

    Twenty year's service medal in bronze (70mm) by Andor Meszaros. Presented in dark blue box.
