  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The United Associations of Women (U.A.) was formed in Sydney, in 1929. Among its objectives were equality of status, opportunity and liberties for men and women. It was extremely active throughout the 1930s and 40s, and played a major role in organising the Australian Women's Charter Conference in 1943.

    Jessie Street, 1889-1970, was an active feminist and a foundation member of the U.A. She was elected president in 1930 and held that office on and off until 1950.
