A stained glass window commemorating the publication of Sydney's first newspaper The Sydney Gazette, designed by Arthur Benfield is located on the western side of the Mitchell reading room. It depicts George Howe presenting a copy of the newspaper to Governor King and Mrs King.

David Scott Mitchell's coat of arms is depicted in a stained glass window on the door of the Mitchell Librarian's office. Written below the coat of arms is 'Etphka'.
