  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Michael Andrew Corish was born in the county Wexford, Ireland, in 1818 and was ordained a priest in 1845.
    He travelled to Sydney in March 1847 and ministered at various churches such as St. Benedicts where he oversaw the consecration of the church by the Archbishop.

    The Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, in Redfern, was erected through the exertions cf Father Corish.

    He was a member of the committees of the Destitute Children's Asylum and the Sydney Infirmary. He was one of the principal promoters of the House of the Good Shepherd, a community which had done incalculable benefits in Sydney. He was sent to Bathurst in March 1864 where he died in June 1864.

    He was also the first priest at Rose Bay Convent, Sydney.
