    William Morris (Billy) Hughes (1862-1952), was prime minister of Australia from 1915 to 1923.

    David Low, political cartoonist, was born in New Zealand in 1891. He moved to Australia in 1911 and worked for the 'Bulletin' and 'Lone Hand'. In 1919 he moved to London. He worked for the 'Star' until 1927 before moving to the 'Evening Standard' where he chronicled the rise of fascism in the 1930s and created his world-famous reactionary character 'Colonel Blimp.' He was knighted in 1962 and died the following year.
