    Maxwell Critchley Hinder (1902-1976) was born at 'Carleton', Summer Hill, Sydney, the eldest son of Dr Henry Vincent Critchley Hinder and Enid Margurite Hinder (nee Pockley). He was educated at Sydney Church of England Grammar School (Shore School). He had two brothers, Francis (Frank) and David, and a sister, Lorna. He married Helen Sawyer in 1927 and they had two daughters, Jennifer and April.
