  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Dr Robert Nicholson McCulloch (1904-1993), agricultural scientist, attended the University of Sydney and was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship in 1926. On his return he joined the NSW Department of Agriculture, where he researched blowfly strike in sheep. During World War II he developed preventive measures for scrub typhus, a major problem for soldiers in New Guinea. For this work he obtained a Doctorate in Agricultural Science and was awarded an MBE. Moving to Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia, he became Principal in 1949, and then Director of the Cattle Tick Research Station at Wollingbar in NSW in 1961. After retiring in 1970 he moved to Brisbane and then to Adelaide, where he died in 1993.
