  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Girl's Realm of Service and Good Fellowship was an Australian branch of a Guild founded in London in 1900. Its main aim was to encourage girls to help other girls. In 1934 their stated aim was to assist girls who show promise and ability to undertake an approved course of training when lack of means from any other source would prevent them from so equipping themselves. The Guild ceased to exist in 1976..

    Greeting Cards from South Africa:
    Everlasting Silver Leaves from Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa, 1900-1902. 14 Boer War period greeting cards. Internally each card has a ruled margin within which is an original period photograph or postcard laid down and on the opposite side of the centre fold are three silver leaves from Table Mountain with a hand painted scene or picture on the central leaf, a message on the two outer leaves and either another leaf or a ribbon securing the leaves. All cards have handwritten messages on the reverse.
    The scenes depicted in the photographs are mostly related to the Boer War: General Christiaan de Wet; Boer Camp and Table Bay; Relief of Ladysmith; With French's Cavalry; Mafeking; Elandslaagte; Loss of the Guns on the Tugela; The Ambuscade at Samma's Post; Colenso; Spion Xop; The Grenedier Guards at the Battle of Biddelph's Berg; Government Avenue, Capetown.
