Educated in his native Italy and in England, Lamberto Yonna came to Australia with his wife, Gina, in 1920. In 1932 they established the Continental School of Languages in George Street, Sydney. Lamberto was interned during the war in Loveday Camp, South Australia. He was an accomplished artist, conducting art classes in the camp and painting back drops for theatrical productions staged by his fellow internees. During the war Gina continued to work in the language school and Aldo, their son, served in the Australian Army in Darwin. From 1950 until his death Lamberto served as Honorary Secretary of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Australia and from 1953 he was Secretary of the ICLE Bank in Sydney. - Scope and ContentSeries 01: Photographs of Lamberto Yonna, ca. 1960
