Mark Foy's first retail outlet was established in Oxford Street in 1885 by Francis (1856?-1918) and his brother Mark Foy (1865-1950) and named in honour of their father.
Mark Foy's new store opened in Liverpool Street, Sydney in 1908 and was registered as a public company in 1909. Known as 'The Piazza' and designed by architects McCredie & Anderson, the two-story store was partly modeled on the Bon Marche department store in Paris. Further retail outlets followed, with Earlwood in 1964 and Burwood in 1966. Mark Foy's ceased trading in 1980 after going into receivership.
