  • Scope and Content
Included are eight oval portraits, two of which have been identified (by Library officers?) as portraits of C. H. Woolcott (compared with John T. Gorus, photographer, Sydney Municipal Council, 1876, ML reference: MPG/12) and Charles Nathan. Both are listed as members of the Sydney Vocal Harmonic Society in Waugh's Australian Almanac 1859. According to F. C. Brewer's 'The drama and music in New South Wales', Sydney, Government Printer, 1892, this Society was founded in December 1858. R. B. Barton and G. Marr Thompson in 'Oratorio in Australia : a short history of the Sydney Philharmonic Society', Sydney, 1903, state that the Sydney Harmonic Vocal Society was founded in 1859. The link between this society and the Concert Society has not been established.
