    Sydney Thomas Thompson, farmer of Bibbenluke, New South Wales, was born in Cooma, Monaro and enlisted in the A.I.F. aged 26 years. He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A58 Kabinga, 12 Sept. 1916 and served with the 12th Light Horse Regiment, 12th Reinforcement in Egypt. He transferred to the 4th Light Horse Regiment 24 Feb. 1917, was hospitalised with malaria in Abbassia, Nov. 1918 and was invalided to Australia on HT Lancashire, 19 Feb. 1919

    Photocopies presented November 1989 by Keith Thompson, son of Sydney Thomas Thompson. The diary of Sydney Thomas Thompson was lent to the Mitchell Library by Keith Thompson to be microfilmed in May 1988 (microfilm copy available at FM4 / 9859). These documents are listed in the Australian Historic Records Register with a brief description and biography by the contributor (Sydney Thomas Thompson: personal records. Document Number 02895). The Australian Historic Records Register (AHRR) is a list of paper-based records held in private hands in Australia, dating from settlement to 1988, produced by the Australian Bicentennial Authority with assistance from the National Library of Australia.     Photocopy of manuscript of poem, "The way to victory : endure & fight" (3 pp.), "composed by Trooper S. T. Thompson, B. Squadron, 4th A.L.H. Reg. 4th Brigade A.I.F. Abroad. Written in the front line in the Jordan Valley. Sept 1918".
