    Both have carved handles. One baton has the crown of Great Britain and the initial 'VR' painted on lower section with the letterss 'VDL', below handle.

    Note written in Sir William Dixson's hand, no. 10: 'Two policemen's batons from Tasmania. One is painted and has the Royal monogram and VDL on it - evidently made in England, the other locally made and plain'.
