Tom Giuffre was born in Sicily in 1912. He studied agriculture at San Placido Calonero in the province of Messina. Soon after his arrival in Sydney in 1928, Giuffre established a florist shop in Paddington and from there he went on to a successful business career in manufacturing. He formed Popolare Metal Stamping Company Pty. Ltd. to manufacture lipstick containers and later expanded into other cosmetic containers. Popolare purchased Aldus Plastics in 1958 and was in turn purchased by Cope Allman Pty. Ltd. in 1963. He became a Deputy Chairman of Cope Allman (Australia) Pty. Ltd. in 1965. In 1953 Giuffre was awarded the Star of Merit by the Italian Government for his work as co-founder and President of the Italo-Australian Welfare Centre (established 1950), which assisted newly arrived Italian migrants. He was also the inaugural President of Co.As.It (Italian Association of Assistance) from 1968-1984. In 1985 he was conferred the title 'Commander' by the Italian Government. Tom Giuffre died in Sydney in 1986.
