Angela Diana was born in Sardinia in 1952. She conducted research on Italian women in Australia and the Italo-Australian anti-Fascist movement during the interwar years for her BA (Communications) degree at the NSW Institute of Technology, 1981. Eight oral history interviews with women formed the basis of her paper ‘Italian Women in Australia, 1920-1940’, published in the Italian journal, Affari Sociali Internazionali, No.2, 1988. In 1981 she produced with other students a videotape intewiew with Francesco Carmagnola, leader of the Italo-Australian anti-Fascist movement in the 1920s. Carmagnola was an anarchist, born in Vicenza in 1900. He came to Australia in 1922 and worked in the canefields of North Queensland. In 1927 he was a co-founder and Secretary of the Matteotti Club in Melbourne.
