  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Friends of the Earth started life in the U.S.A. in 1969 and is now an international environmental network with groups active in many countries. It researches important environmental questions and conducts campaigns towards stabilizing the eco-system in order to achieve a state of environmental harmony. Friends of the Earth Australia was formed in 1972 and there are groups in all capital cities as well as suburban and country groups. It publishes a variety of books and pamphlets. Friends of the Earth N.S.W. is an autonomous organisation (as are all F.O.E. groups) committed to the conservation, restoration and rational use of the natural environment and its resources. It was established in 1974 and is active in local and international issues. It has carried out research, education and action in many areas, including uranium mining, nuclear disarmament, whaling (Project Jonah), preservation of forests, public transport and town planning and Aboriginal land rights.
