  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Hector Brewer, groom, of Marrickville, Sydney enlisted at Randwick aged 19 years, 24 August 1914 and embarked from Sydney on board Transport A23 Suffolk, 18 Oct. 1914. He joined the H. Company, 2nd Battalion as a private and was transferred to the 54th Battalion, 14th Brigade on 27 February 1916. He served in the Gallipoli campaign and in France and Belgium and was promoted corporal in 1916 and lieutenant in 1917. He returned to Australia on the Derbyshire, 23 Mar. 1919 and was discharged from the army Apr. 1919.

    Includes folder containing correspondence and papers concerning Hector Brewer and the Yenda farm, October 1918-January 1943 (Item 8). Correspondence includes a circular from General Rawlinson to the Fourth Army re the Australian Corps, 14 October 1918; letter from AIF Kit Store, London, 6 August 1918, concerning possessions held in safe custody; letter from Capt. Jack Adams, Military Hut, Shepherds Bush, 1 February 1919; and letter from Returned Soldiers' Settlement Branch, 15 July 1919, re application a block of land.
