'These gold scales, all ounce weights and 3 diots. were in use for nearly 80 years at Gundagai, Adelong and other gold fields. They were, 80 years ago, the property of a Chinese Mandarin who came to Australia as interpreter the Chinese. The family was well known at Wagga Wagga. A grandson, Lyle Moy, part-Chinese, gave them to me. He is a dealer in antiques and hopes one day to be a painter. The scales still have the Molten tag on which the seal was affixed and without which no scales were legal. 13 December, 1947 Mary Gilmore' [information provided by donor]
