Kathleen Monypenny was born in Hay, NSW in 1894. She spent most of her working life in the Mitchell Library. She wrote children's books and poetry as well as articles for publication, including book reviews. She used various pen names in her journalism such as Margaret Silver, M. K. and K. P. as well as her own name.

Include newscuttings and journal articles written by Kathleen Monypenny from Australian and British newspapers, such as the Sydney Morning Herald, Sydney Sun as well as from journals such as The Bulletin, The Australian Quarterly, Woman's Budget, Australian Writers' Annual, The Listener, The Queen, BBC Empire Broadcasting and Pen News. Featured are her published poetry as well as her journalism which covers a range of topics such as the Mitchell Library, literature, the arts in Australia and Europe, Australian social history, gardening and food. It includes radio scripts for the BBC and a theatre programme for her play 'A masque of Old Sydney', staged by the Independent Theatre in 1932.

Includes some inscriptions by Kathleen Monypenny, commenting on the newscuttings.
