  A. H. Benham, a labourer of Dubbo, New South Wales enlisted in the 4th Battalion, A.I.F. 16 Oct. 1916 at the age of 24 and embarked from Sydney on board SS Port Nicholson, 8 Nov. 1916 and served in France 1917 to May 1918 when he was invalided to England. He returned to Australia on troopship Mamari, 21 Dec. 1918

  Volume includes newscuttings, 20 May 1918-12 June 1919, from Dubbo Liberal, reported to be excerpts from A. H. Benham's diary while working as a munitions worker in England during June 1918-Mar. 1919. Describes the outward voyage on R.M.S. Balmoral Castle, Apr.-June 1918, experiences working at Redcar, Yorkshire, leave in England and return voyage on S.S. Kursk, Mar.-May 1919; workman's ration book, Ministry of Munitions, Hollinwood; pictures, including portrait of A.H. Benham and postcards of places abroad, ca.1918-1919, some with letters to his family on verso
