  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Major H.P. Boland was born in 1921. In 1940 he enlisted in the 24th Australian Light Horse (Gwydir) Regiment. In 1944 he was transferred to 2/7th Australian Infantry Battalion and saw active service in the Aitape-Wewak campaign, 1944-45. After the war he was commissioned in the CMF and was promoted to Major in 1957. In 1962 he was appointed Historian of the Royal New South Wales Regiment (RNSWR) by the Regimental Council. In civilian life he worked as a building surveyor and as part time curator at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, specialising in Numismatics. In 1977 he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study Numismatics in British museums.

    ‘The Second World War 1939-45. The Final New Guinea Campaign 1944-45’. An assignment by Major Boland’s granddaughter, Amelia, using his military memorabilia. The memorabilia (realia) and a photograph album have been removed and transferred to new locations (see below for details). The assignment also contains two US Army War Department Maps of Aitape East and Seno East; on the reverse of the latter is a diagram of a "Fuze M 52".
