  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Andrea Sophia Watt (nee Hoch) was born in 1805 in Copenhagen. In 1828 she married her Scottish cousin Alexander Watt, a merchant, and shortly afterwards they moved to India and then Singapore. In 1833 they sailed to Sydney, eventually settling in Bathurst where they bought a house and land which they named 'Esrom.' Around 1858 they moved to Sydney. Andrea died in 1876 a their home, 'Buena Vista' at Snails Bay, Balmain.

  • Scope and Content
    Bound volume of poems and hymns mainly by Andrea Sophia Watt. The volume also includes:
    1. Three watercolours - 'The Italian Letter Writer'; a flower; and two ladies.
    2. Three etchings, one being a portrait of Reginald Heber, Lord Bishop of Calcutta.
    3. Sketch and plan of 'Esrom'.
