- Scope and ContentThe photograph was apparently taken from the N.E. corner of Castlereagh St. and Martin Place, looking SS-W., the names of the buildings mentioned above being indicated in white lettering. The Commonwealth Bank is the present (1968) Commonwealth Trading Bank, on the corner of Pitt St. and Martin Place. The Cenotaph is just visible on the right-hand side of the picture. The dating is almost exact, as the Cenotaph was not completed and opened until 1929, and the Government Savings Bank of N.S.W. was taken over by the Commonwealth Bank in 1931. The Commercial Bank is the Head Office of the Commercial Banking Co. of Sydney.
