  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

In 1986 a funding crisis threatened the survival of the Service. A review of the Area Health services that had commenced in 1984 recommended that the Sydney Home Nursing Services cease to operate as a service provider and that the nurses be absorbed into the various area health services where they would train community nurses. Action by supporters of the service prevented this occurring and the Service was restored as a second schedule hospital. However by proclamation in the NSW Government Gazette the Directors of the Sydney Home Nursing Service were removed and the administration of the hospital was transferred to Ms Kathy Baker from 29 May until 31 August 1996 inclusive. On 26 June 1996 the Sydney Home Nursing Service ceased to be a hospital incorporated under the Public Hospitals Act 1929 and it was transferred to the Northern Sydney Area Health Service from 1 July 1996. After this date the Sydney Home Nursing Service ceased to be an autonomous body.
