  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

John Edric Proudfoot (1910-1994) was born in Kogarah, Sydney, and had his early art training at the National Art School at East Sydney Technical College. After World War II, during which he served in the Survey Corps, he worked as a newspaper artist while also exhibiting and executing commissions. His portraits, still life paintings and landscapes were hung at several Sydney and country art shows and his portrait of Dr C. D. Throsby was a finalist in the Art Gallery of NSW’s Archibald Prize in 1972. He and his wife Joy spent ten years in the United Kingdom where he had paintings accepted by the Royal Academy in London. Returning to Australia in 1987, he continued to exhibit, living first in Adelaide and then in the Shoalhaven area of NSW.
