In 1966-67 a series of strikes were held by Aboriginal stockmen on the Wave Hill cattle station which led to the Gurindji tribe to move to Wattie Creek. It marked the beginning of land rights which led to the Labor Government in 1975 returning a portion of land back to the Gurindji tribe.
