The Protestant Alliance Friendly Society was established in New South Wales in 1859 and in Victoria in 1868. The two bodies were amalgamated in 1873 to become the Protestant Alliance Friendly Society of Australasia. The first Grand Council Session of the New South Wales PAFSA was held in 1884. The Society provided medical attendance for members and their families, payments when members were unable to work through illness, and funeral benefits. Membership was made up largely of tradesmen and skilled workers.

Protestant Alliance Friendly Society of New South Wales records, 1875-2008. The collection mainly comprises minute books, including minutes of meetings of the Grand Executive Council, Grand Trust Advisory Board, annual general meetings, Audit Committee, Building Committee, and Board of Directors. Also included are records relating to the history of PAFS NSW, being typescript notes, correspondence, newscuttings, souvenir booklets, cards, photocopies of membership lists etc., and colour and black & white photographs.
