- Scope and ContentLetter written by Fanny Ranken of 34 Darlinghurst Road, Sydney, 20 December 1910, to her family lawyer regarding her life in Sydney. She comments on the 17th Conference of Public School Teachers, which concluded the day before. She refers to the State Governor's speech, in which he urged teachers to have hobbies and take up special subjects for the improvement of themselves, their pupils and often the world. The letter concludes with the observation that "Australia is coming into her own both in literature and art", with some fine books now available by Australian men and women. In a postscript, she mentions the death of her grandson, Douglas, aged 15.
