Roderick Williams is a poet, singer, actor, shearer and was involved in the Gurindji strike in the late 1960's and early 1970's.

The Gurindji are a group of Aboriginal Australians living in the Northern Territory's Victoria River region. In 1966 Gurindji stockmen, house servants and their families walked off Wave Hill cattle station (owned by Vesteys) and began a seven-year strike over working conditions and a demand for the return of their tribal land. During the strike the Gurindji established a settlement near by at Wattie Creek. Their land was handed back to them in 1975 when they were granted inalienable freehold title to almost all of Wave Hill Cattle Station.
