    Private C. G. Monk, a farm hand of Erskineville, Sydney enlisted aged 22 years and embarked on board HMAT A29 Suevic, 11 November 1916 with reinforcements for the 54th Infantry Battalion, A.I.F. He trained in England and served in France, transferring to the 2nd Machine Gun Battalion in 1918. He was hospitalised in France with trench fever, Oct. 1917 and returned to Sydney on the Mahana, 12 Nov. 1919
