    The original collection contains 512 drawings in a folio volume, and includes charts, landscapes, studies of Australian aborigines, botanical and zoological studies (295 drawings are of birds).

    In the 1980s, the original volume was disbound and discarded.

    PXB 49:
    Includes 75 photographs of landscapes and aboriginal studies

    PXB 50:
    Includes photographs of bird drawings (nos. 105-295], numbered in vol. 1-295.

    FM5/610-649 are colour transparencies of some bird drawings and FM5/1226-1313 are colour transparencies of drawings nos 1-88.

    For this list the numbering of items in the collection is that of the original volume; thus there are two sequences, that is 1-104, 1-335. The second sequence begins the bird drawings.

    Identification of the birds (numbers 1-295, 2nd sequence) are from:
    Hindwood, K.A. The "Watling" drawings with incidental notes from the Royal Zoological Society of N.S.W. Proceedings, 1962-1969, pages 16-32. (ML ref 590.6/8)

    Identification of the animals (numbers 89-104) are by G.P. Whitley published in Hindwood's article detailed above, as are the identifications of the fish (numbers 305-318, 2nd sequence).

    Identifications of the shell drawings are from:
