The bridge is presumably that built over the 'Falls' at the foot of Market Street, Melbourne in 1860, whose southern approach was under the low culvert which carried the railway line to Port Melbourne and St Kilda, and in 1890 was replaced by a new Falls bridge - Queens Bridge (from an article written by A.W. Greig in the Melbourne Argus, 1 March 1836, and the Age, 18 April 1850)

In blue pencil on back is 'Marvellous Melbourne 1889 Alta' (There is a pamphlet reprinted from the Kew Mercury and Hawthorn Advertiser, Kew Mott & Co. ... 1889' entitled 'Marvellous Melbourne twenty years hence' which makes mention of a rocky bar being cut away at the Falls by the Harbour Trust, on p. 5)
