  • General note

    Printed in black and calendered. Ink very pale due either to light impression or to fading. May be a set pulled off at a much later date than the original edition, compared with DGV1/69-71.

    The copper plates from which these were printed are at DG R1-R3. Plates were chrome plated in 1987 by Alecto Historical Editions, London, see PXD 604, further use of plates restricted for 100 years.

    For what seems to be the oriignal of plate 3 see back Cockle Bay ,now Darling Harbour, and of part of plates see Windmill, Observatory Hill.

    Prospectus of Colnahi & Co. and others entitled Scenery in Australia is pasted on back of V1/c.1821/8. A map annotated by Sir W. Dixson showing signatures, etc. of panorama at DL Cb 89/10.
  • Date note

    The panorama show the tower of St James built but not the spire, so date should be ca. 1821. Foundation stone laid October 1819, church erecting Feb. 1820, hopes to have it roofed and nearly completed in 8 months time (H.R.A. X, 283), church in Hyde Park nearly completed (list of public buildings to Nov. 30, 1821 H.R.A. X. 687), not yet completed Dec. 29, 1821 (S.G.), first service held Jan. 11, 1822 (S.G.), nearing completion Oct. 30, 1823 (S.G.). opened and consecrated on 11th Feb. 12, 1824 (S.G.)
    Taylor was in Australia August 1817 beginning-1822.
