    Frank Cowburn was born in Yorkshire, 1894, left England in 1912, came to Australia, studied and worked for the NSW Department of Education, retired in 1955, and died in 1985.

    1953 Coronation Medal. Queen Elizabeth II instituted the medal to honour her coronation in 1953. It was awarded to 11,500 Australians. Frank Cowburn's name is listed.

    31mm wide circular silver medal with scroll and laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in robes of state with the collar of the Order of the Garter and the badge of the Order of the Bath, wearing a Tudor crown, facing right; the reverse with the crowned cipher of Queen Elizabeth II circumscribed ‘Queen Elizabeth II, Crowned 2nd June 1953'. Suspended from a red ribbon with white side stripes and two dark blue vertical stripes in centre. Attached to silver pin. In red presentation box with 'ER II, 1953 Coronation Medal' printed on cover. On side of box, 'Civil'.
