    Corporal Alan Keats Gordon, newsagent of Lindfield, New South Wales was born in Lancefield, Victoria and enlisted in Sydney aged 22, 16 Aug. 1915. He had begun his military training at a camp in Randwick, New South Wales in 1914 and in September 1915 was transferred to Liverpool camp to join the 11th Reinforcements, 4th Battalion, AIF (New South Wales). Nellie Clark and Alan Gordon announced their engagement on the 11th October 1915 before his departure on the 14th October aboard the troop ship S.S. Port Lincoln.By the 20th November 1915 Corporal Alan Keats Gordon was stationed at the Heliopolis Camp in Egypt for training. He embarked for France Mar. 1916.
    The last letter from Alan to Nellie is dated 12th August 1916 followed by a cablegram dated 30th August saying that he was wounded. He died on the 2nd September 1916 aged 23 years, 11 months
