  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    William Arthur Scholes and 13 other men manned the first Antarctic weather station at Heard Island, 2500 miles south-west of Perth from 1947-1949. He was also a member of Discovery II expedition to Shackleton Ice Shelf in 1950-1951. He went to the UK and lectured to the Royal Geographical Society and Scott Polar Research Institute and became a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society in 1951.
