The drawings apparently were originally contained in two albums which belonged to Felipe Bauza Canas who was in charge of the work done by the various artists attached to the expedition. In 1955 these albums were on loan to the Museo Naval, Madrid.

Taken 1955, seem to include only those in Mitchell Library field.

In 1961 some Malaspina Expedition drawings which appeared to have formed part of the albums above were offered for sale and twelve of these were purchased for the Dixson Galleries (DGD 2). It seems that the remainder of the drawings were presented to the Spanish Government.
