    Signaller S. Norris, a clerk, was born in Yorkshire, England and enlisted in Melbourne, Victoria aged 21, on 7 Nov. 1914. He embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A46 Clan Macgillivray, 2 Feb. 1915 and served in the 6th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement in Egypt and Gallipoli. He was wounded at Gallipoli, returned to Australia and was discharged there in July 1916. He later returned to England as assistant canteen-sergeant on the troopship Nestor, Nov. 1916
