  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Right Reverend James Edward Bromley (1939-2004) led the Missionary Diocese of Australia in the Anglican Catholic Church. He was educated at the University of Sydney, Moore Theological College, St John’s College, Morpeth, and the University of Newcastle. Ordained by the Anglican Bishop of Newcastle in 1980, Bromley served in academic or clerical capacities in schools, colleges, universities, parishes and dioceses in Australia, Argentina and Denmark. He joined the Anglican Catholic Church in 1987 and was chosen as their Bishop of Australia in 1993, for one period also overseeing activities in India and South Africa.

    The collection comprises personal papers, along with correspondence and subject files relating to Bishop Bromley's service in the Anglican Church of Australia and the Anglican Catholic Church of Australia.

    Personal papers including: biographical information, diary entries and academic transcript; correspondence with and concerning family and friends; correspondence with the Bishop of Newcastle; family history records of the Stanford, Stanger and Kelk families; papers relating to Bromley’s ordination in 1980 and wedding in 1983; itinerary and course material for study undertaken at St George’s College, Jerusalem in 1982; correspondence and arrangements concerning 1995 trip to India and the USA, 1972-2001
