  • Scope and Content
This view is based on an apparently no longer extant original watercolour interior view of the Leverian Museum by Sarah Stone and Charles Ryley. The engraving appears as the frontispiece illustration from A companion to the Museum (late Sir Ashton Lever's)… London, 1790.
It relates to the watercolour by Sarah Stone exhibited under the title Perspective [interior] view of Sir Ashton Lever's Museum [Leicester Square, London] March 30/1785, and held by the Mitchell Library (ML 1230).

Sir Ashton Lever's Museum was one of England's most notable late-eighteenth century private natural history museums displaying items collected on Cook's and other voyages to Australia and the Pacific.
The verso includes newscuttings reporting on fancy dress balls in London, after 1811-1820.
