  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Bank of New South Wales opened its first agricultural branch in Windsor in 1858, in premises rented from William McQuade, on the corner of George and Kable Streets, Windsor. This original building, used as the bank premises and bank manager’s residence was the former family home of William Baker, the proprietor of the Royal Oak Inn on Baker Street, Windsor. The bank rented the premises and land from the McQuade family for many years, which many additions and alterations occurring during its occupation. In 1935 the bank demolished the old Georgian building and its bank chambers, erecting a new more suitable premises and selling off some of the land to the Commonwealth Bank.
