Gregory was associated with Leichhardt in that his expeditions were conducted in part with the intention of looking for Leichhardt.

'Victoria River' was the name earlier given to Cooper's Creek (Ref: Wells, W.H 'Gazetteer of the Australian colonies'. Sydney, 1848)

    A. C. Gregory's Expeditions in search of Leichhardt brought him to Victoria River (or Cooper's Creek) below its junction with the Thompson, by May 24, 1858. His assistant commander was C.F. Gregory, possibly the artist of this sketch (see Legislative Assembly - N.S.W. 1858 Expedition in search of Dr Leichhardt - Report of Proceedings' in Gregory, A. C 'Journals of Australian Explorations', Brisbane 1884.
