    Frank Hooper Legg (1906-1966), broadcaster and war correspondent, was born in England and arrived in Australia in 1927. He worked as a freelance writer and insurance officer before becoming a journalist. He joined The Adelaide News in 1937 and also gave talks on the ABC. In July 1940 he enisted in the Australian Imperial Force and served as a sergeant in the 2/48 Battalion in North Africa. In 1942 he was appointed regimental sergeant major. While on duty he wrote a series of articles, 'Tales of Tobruk', for the A.B.C. Weekly. He left the Army in December 1943 to become the ABC’s war correspondent in the Pacific, covering campaigns in New Guinea and Borneo. He became a popular broadcaster on the ABC after the war. He published several books, including the military biography The Gordon Bennett Story (1965).

Included are diaries (8), 1942-1948; notebooks, 1936-1947; papers regarding his war service; newscutting reviews of his book, The Gordon Bennett Story (1965); research notes; and printed material, including an issue of The Khamseen Kronicle: The Official Paper of the 2/48 Battalion R.S.
