The last voyage of the 'Spirit of Tasmania', from Sydney to Devonport, left Sydney on Sunday 27 August 2006. The car ferry service had operated for approximately two and a half years. It was an initiative by the Tasmanian Government to attract Sydney tourists and their cars to Tasmania for self-drive holidays, however low patronage and financial considerations led to the service being discontinued.
